For Sale in our Chicago showroom is a 1979 MG Midget. The Midget is an English car that began as an upscale version of the Austin Healey Sprite in 1961 and continued a successful production run until 1979. This is considered to be an MG Midget 1500 which was produced from 1974 until 1979 relatively unchanged. In order to meet US safety standards large plastic bumpers were installed and the ride height was increased. Due to the increase in ride height an anti-roll bar was installed to help the center of gravity and increase handling. Also on the model 1500 the 1493cc engine rated at 50HP was introduced which produced more torque and along with the taller gear ratios was able to increase acceleration and lower the 0-60 times to 12 seconds down from 13.seconds. This smooth running inline 4cylinder is backed by a 4 speed manual Morris Marina transmission with full synchromesh on all 4 gears for fun and easy driving. A single Zenith-Stromberg 150 CD4 Unit was fitted to later model 1500 Midgets including this one and provides reliable carburetion. This particular Midget is quite a find as it is in all original condition and still looks runs and drives like it is 1979 all over again. New parts include: coil springs electronic ignition tune up with spark plugs and wires and new tires. One quick turn of the key and this car is ready to roll. Options on this cute little ragtop include AM/FM Radio vinyl bucket seats wood MG shifter wire knockoff wheels including spare and tonneau cover. What makes this MG very special is that it is a complete original low mileage car that has been pampered all of its life from new. This car retains the original paint wheels and interior. Most of the parts on this car that are not maintenance items are original and in very nice condition. This car is very straight and has always been garage kept. After traveling under 58000 original miles and having meticulous maintenance along the way this car is ready for many fun years to come.
