Following the immediate success of the Mach 1 model upon its introduction in 1969, it replaced the Mustang GT outright in 1970. The Mach 1 was only made available in the Fastback body style and received several cosmetic and performance-oriented upgrades such as Mach 1 on the rocker panels, a honeycomb rear panel, a black-striped hood with a functional scoop, competition suspension, deluxe interior, rear deck spoiler, and rear Sport Slats on the back window. The Calypso Coral is a great color that gives you the same boldness as red, but a rarity from only being offered on the Mustang for a few select years. The 351 cubic-inch V-8 inhales deeply through an Edelbrock carburetor & intake and exhales with authority as long tube headers feed the dual exhaust. The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench upholstered in black vinyl with pleated knit horizontal inserts joined by a color-coordinated headliner and door panels. Woodgrain veneers accent the dashboard, center console, and door panels, and equipment includes a push-button AM/Cassette radio, black rubber floor mats, antitheft alarm with keyless entry. The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level, battery charge, oil pressure, coolant temperature and a column mounted 8k-rpm tachometer by AutoMeter.
