Stylish, but in the European vein. The Avanti was a definite departure from the norm. In 1962 Studebaker promoted a Modified R3 variant as the Worlds Fastest production car. With certified records at speeds up to 178.5mph it definitely was! This 1963 Avanti R1 isnt quite up to those velocities, but its a cool ride none the less. Finished in a lovely shade of cream over cream cloth interior, this Avanti is a striking ride. This car was optioned with the R1 engine. This consisted of a 4bbl 289 V8, good for 240hp. This car was also blessed with - still cold - AC, AM/FM radio, power brakes and seat belts. The interior is in good condition with no rips or tears and the dash looks resplendent in its crack-free, cream finish. The big wood wheel and four-speed shifter give a sporty touch. An extra bonus is the brown carpet and patterned headliner, which offer an extra layer of class. With less than 4600 produced in 1963, these stylish coupes are a rare sight.
