Gateway Classic Cars of Indianapolis is proud to present this 1991 Mazda Miata MX-5 Convertible Special Edition! In the late 80s Mazda was looking to bring a new sports car to the market. Unsure of which avenue to go they sought ideas from both American and Japanese operations. The Japanese design favored a design akin to the MR2 with the engine at the back. Naturally the American design had the engine up front. Mazda chose the American design and as they say, the rest is history. The Miata has seen many design changes over the years with 4 generations starting in 1990 and still in production today. The Guinness Book of World Records shows the MX-5 as the best-selling two-seat sports car in history with over 1 million sold by Spring 2016. This model is from 91, the 2nd year of the 1st generation and she is something special. The Miata has seen several Special Editions over the years but just 2 years into production, Mazda named their first Special Edition model for the MX-5. Known as the BRG MX-5 or BRG Miatas they came in Great Britains Grand Prix color before sponsors were the rage, British Racing Green. The BRG MX-5 also came with tan leather seats, tan tonneau cover, black soft top, Nardi branded wood shift knob, wood handbrake grip, and special badge to signify its rarity. Only 4000 examples would be made for the US Market and this is #816. The BRG green paint shows well and still has a nice shine. Black soft top is in good shape and offers a nice balance between the exterior tones. Inside the tan leather interior is in good order and looks comfortable. Under the hood is the spirited 1.6L Inline 4-Cylinder engine and backed by a fun shifting 5-Speed Manual Transmission. Current owner upgrade the A/C, sandblasted and coated the wheels, and added new tires in 2021! Carfax shows 4 owners but its only 2. She was bought new from Tom Roush Mazda of Indiana. Original owner sold it to the current owner and their spouse. It was retitled into a business name and then back to the same owner that bought it from the original owner. Per the owner, the title has only ever been in 2 owners hands. Odometer reads 45k miles and is actual. The title and Carfax support the claim. Carfax is clean with no accidents.
