Used 2003 Chevrolet Corvette for sale in Concord, North Carolina
Gateway Classic Cars of Charlotte is proud to digitally present this 2003 Chevrolet Corvette. One of the more popular high-tech options introduced to the Corvette line was a head-up display or HUD. At the same time, another innovation was the Active Handling System; first available as an option in 1998, then standard on all models in 2001. The C5 was also the first Corvette to incorporate a drive-by-wire throttle; and variable-effort steering, whereby the assist level of the power steering is varied according to vehicle speed (more at lower speeds, less at higher speeds). The interior is fitted with everything you want for a pleasant driving experience. The leather power seating sport buckets (AQ9) with the driver memory convenience package (AAB) make piloting this capable machine comfortable and stylish. The Bose audio system will fill the cabin with your favorite music for those times you are not enjoying the melodic tones of the exhaust. The preferred equipment group (1SB) gives you power tilt and telescopic steering wheel, twilight sentinel headlamp control, electro-chromatic rear and side mirrors, and the awesome fighter jet-inspired Heads-Up Display! In addition to the factory items, this C5 has been fitted with some unique modifications that will help you stand out. The front Duraflex bumper and the RK Sport RK5 Rear Bumper extend the body lines and provide a custom touch. A glance at the nose of the car and observers will notice the Octane Motorsports fixed headlamp conversion, a style cue taken from the Corvette C5-R race team that competed in GT races, like the 24 hours of Le Mans. Some mild performance work has also been completed. Air is sucked into the LS1 via a custom Twin Cold Air Intake, then exits through BBK headers connected to a Magnaflow Cat Back exhaust system. The power is transferred to the pavement through the 2.73 Limited-Slip Differential, then to the (QF5) polished aluminum wheels measuring 17x8.5 in the front and 18x9.5 in the rear.A significant change from its predecessor, the C4, the C5 featured a hydroformed box frame, a design that offered an improved structural platform, especially for a convertible body style. The transmission was relocated to the cars rear to form an integrated, rear-mounted transaxle assembly, connected to the all-new LS1 engine via a torque tube - an engine/transmission arrangement enabling a 50-50 (percentage, front-rear) weight distribution for improved handling. The 2003 LS1 engine produced a factory-rated 350 hp (261 kW). The 4L60-E automatic transmission carried over from previous models. Relative to the C4, the new platform and structural design substantially reduced squeaks and rattles. In contrast to the reputation of high-performance vehicles for poor fuel economy, the C5 achieves comparatively high EPA ratings of 18/25 mpg (city/highway) with the automatic transmission, allowing it to avoid the gas guzzler tax that is levied against most other vehicles in the Corvettes class. Several factors are responsible for this: the relatively light weight of the C5 (a curb weight under 3,300lb (1,500 kg); Chevrolet went so far as to omit the spare tire as a weight-saving measure, relying upon run-flat tires instead); the C5s low drag coefficient; and the vehicles tendency to upshift into the higher gears as soon as possible. The C5 can match or beat the 0-60 mph acceleration times of some of the worlds premier sports cars of the same era, including the Aston Martin DB7 Vantage and the Ferrari 355. A composite of published performance numbers for the base-model coup and convertible gives a 0-60 mph time of around 4.5 seconds and a standing quarter-mile time of about 13.3 seconds at 108 mph (both times for a vehicle equipped with the 6-speed manual transmission).
