Gateway Classic Cars Milwaukee is excited to present this 1979 Pontiac Trans Am. Pontiac first introduced the first Trans Am which consisted of an optional handling package in 1969. A limited number were made including 689 hardtops and 8 convertibles that year. This 1979 second generation Trans Am was built from 1970-1981. In 1977 the shaker hood scoop was revised, and four rectangular headlamps dominated the front end. In 1979 117,108 Trans Am models were built of which only 8,690 units were built with the W72 powerplant that Pontiac had set aside from the 1978 model year. And of that only 2,485 W72 hardtops were produced. The only transmission available was a four-speed manual and all W72s came with the WS6 package. The 6.6 V-8 was the highest horsepower engine Pontiac had in 1979 at 220hp and 320lb of torque. Hot rod Magazine ran a 1979 W72 four-speed at 0-60 in under seven seconds. The W72 engine with a 800 CFM carburetor, reinforced webbing block, 6X4 high compression heads, special 365 inch cam shaft, 1.5 ratio rockers, special exhaust manifolds, and a 60psi oil pump w/ a baffled oil pan. This 1979 Pontiac Trans Am is painted in Atlantis Blue. Accented with its original Trans Am decals and a set of B.F. Goodrich raised white letter tires mounted on factory alloy wheels. The original vinyl blue interior sports bucket seats and a center console. Nice options include power windows. power locks, AM/FM/8-track radio, air conditioning, power steering, and power brakes. Under the hood is the W72 6.6L 400ci V-8 attached to a four-speed manual transmission. A copy of Original Build Sheet is available upon request. This 1979 Trans Am received Gold Survivor Status at the 2012 Pontiac Oakland Convention Center is St. Charles, Illinois.
