They were applauded and offered a nice alternative to the Ford Mustang- which had a 3 year head start in the Pony-Car market. And although Firebird and Camaro shared the same F body platform, Pontiac managed through the year to offer a very distinctive look over its GM competitor. Firebirds differ from big brother Lemans & GTO A bodies mainly due to having a partial frame only under the front, and subframe & leaf springs in the rear. As a result, they are lighter... which made them winners at the dragstrips and with gearheads on the street. They also made eye-catching daily drivers. This particular Firebird has been rebuilt, with a 350 Chevy V8, with less than 50 miles on it since done and is paired with a 4-speed manual transmission.
