Used 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle for sale in Coral Springs, Florida
Gateway Classic Cars of Fort Lauderdale is happy to present this 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 Tribute, in red & black on black. The 1970 SS 396 variants, and LS5 / LS6 454-powered Chevelles are considered by many to be Chevrolets pinnacle Muscle Car, and because of that, factory original ones have soared to all-time highs often exceeding $100,000. It is easy to see why someone would source a base Chevelle and add the SS badging, a big block V8 and 12-bolt rear end during restoration as is the case here. But even still, many are fine with a good tribute. We know this one left the Atlanta factory as a Chevelle Malibu with a small block V8, in code 45 Green Mist with a vinyl top, built the 4th week of April 1970. The exterior & undercarriage of this car are very clean, with smooth, high-gloss paint exterior & striping. Body gaps are great, and a functional Cowl Induction hood seals the deal. The original small block was replaced with a correct 396 block (3969584) with K 15 8 date code (November 15, 1968), making it a 1968-1969 model year block, trimmed out with aluminum heads, GM style Winters aluminum intake, Holley 4 Bbl. carburetor, and factory type cold air intake air cleaner assembly. Stock exhaust manifolds toss it back to the performance dual exhaust system. A THM 350 was chosen over a THM 400, and the original 10-bolt rear end was replaced with a 1972 vintage 12-bolt, date code D 24 2 (April 24, 1972). Boxed rear lower control arms were added. RPO F41 components are absent, and a standard front sway bar and steering coupler all tell us it was born a base Malibu. Many of the features standard on a real SS car were added here, so we give it a thumbs up. The interior looks great, and the standard style bench seating & column shift make front seating areas 3-passenger capable. Many muscle cars came with bench seating back then as buckets & consoles were generally optional equipment- and are readily available should one wish to add them. A Vintage Air Conditioning system, power steering and power brakes make it easy, and comfortable to drive. If you dream of owning a 1970 SS Chevelle, but do not have $70-250,000 + for a real one, then consider this one. It looks the part, has a nice big block, and it will get the looks- while not breaking the bank. You can baby it, or take it out and ring its neck without the fear of destroying an original high-dollar car. These are great cars in any form, and pretty much everything is available to keep them running strong and looking good for years to come.
