Gateway Classic Cars of Dallas is excited to offer a 1978 Toyota Land Cruiser. This 1978 Toyota BJ40 Land Cruiser is the diesel variant of the iconic FJ40. Powered by Toyotas 3.5L “B” engine, The 3B is a 3.5 L inline 4 eight valve OHV diesel engine. The compression ratio is 20:1. Output is 90 hp (67 kW) at 3,500 rpm with 160 ft·lbf (217 N·m) of torque at 2,000 rpm. It comes to us from a Gentleman who street drove this LC 4000 Kilometers from Costa Rica to DFW. Before that, This Land Cruiser was torn down. All the way down. Glass out, body off, the works. He dismantled and rebuilt the Cruiser, down to the frame coming off, then had this ’78 BJ40 Land Cruiser rebuilt to amazing spec. The 3.5L Toyota “B” diesel engine comes to life with ease, and makes torquey power, helping pull the truck down the road around 60mph. It revs freely and has outstanding low-end torque. The four-speed manual transmission shifts smoothly, while the high-low transfer case engages with ease, helping the Toyota go damn-near-anywhere you can think to put it. Interior. The black vinyl interior is largely stock, configured to seat three across the front, with two rear-opposed jump seats providing room for 2-4 more people, size depending. Air Conditioning is a nice touch! An aftermarket head unit was installed, with upgraded speakers, And they work just fine, but between you and me, the growl of the diesel provides a nice enough soundtrack all on its own.
