It was the first steel American 2-seater since the 1957 Thunderbird. The AMX was designed to appeal to both muscle car and sports car enthusiasts, two groups that rarely acknowledged each others existences. The 1968 version was such a hit that the factory raised the price in 1969 a whopping $52.
