VEHICLE DESCRIPTION

Used 1970 Oldsmobile Delta 88 for sale in Kenosha, Wisconsin

Gateway Classic Cars of Milwaukee is offering this 1970 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale coupe. The Oldsmobile story is one of the oldest and most prestigious in American automotive history. Oldsmobiles roots date all the way back to 1897 when a bright young engineer named Ransom Eli Olds founded the Olds Motor Vehicle Company in Lansing MI. Olds had many early successes with his new company developing early gasoline, electric and stream powered engines. Olds was the 1st automobile company to use an assembly line to produce cars. Over Oldsmobiles rich 107-year history the brand created some of the most innovative vehicles ever seen. One being the 88 line. Placed as the 2nd in line model below the 98, the 88 proved to be what the American car buying public was looking for after WWII and a new car shortage that incurred because of the war effort. When the 88 debuted in 1949, Olds unknowingly created the groundwork for what would become the archetype of the muscle car movement that would develop in Detroit some 15 years later by dropping a strong powerful V8 engine into a midsized car. This idea exploded in ‘64 when GM sibling Pontiac rolled outs its new GTO model. The 442, GS and Chevelle SS all ran with this new concept and the rest is auto history. Over time the 88 line saw 10 generations and used plenty of trim levels including Futuramic, Super, Rocket, Dynamic, Jetstar, Delta, Delmont, Starfire, Holiday, & Royale. The 88 line was Oldsmobiles most profitable model from 1950 - 1974 and the 88 was even the inspiration for the hit song “Rocket 88 preformed by Jackie Brenston. The 88 proved to be one of Oldsmobiles biggest hits and the model ran for 50 years, coming to an end in 1999. Our featured Delta 88 wears the Royale trim package, it is finished in Nugget Gold Metallic paint, a black vinyl top and a cloth & vinyl combo interior. The car is equipped a Rocket 455ci engine mated to a 3-speed automatic trans. The vehicle has many creature comforts such as power brakes and steering, tilt steering wheel, AC, cruise control, power windows, seat belts, AM radio, electronic hood lock, white wall tires and full wheel covers. The car was purchased new from Ducas Oldsmobile in West Allis, WI and has been in the same family since new. Make a date in your Rocket 88 today!
