After the big reveal the car hit production by September of 1954 and was available for purchase one month later selling as the 1955 model. Although the Thunderbird was designed to directly compete against GMs C1 Corvette the Thunderbird was not marketed as a sports car it instead sought to be a more upscale vehicle.
