VEHICLE DESCRIPTION

Used 1948 Ford F1 for sale in DFW Airport, Texas

Gateway Classic Cars of Dallas is proud to offer a 500HP Plum Crazy 1948 Ford F1 Restomod! Ford stayed a step ahead of the pack when it introduced its “Bonus Built trucks in 1948. Unlike its prewar light-duty models that were based on car chassis, the all-new F-1 featured a unique frame, telescopic shock absorbers and a one-piece windshield, the latter a big distinction from the competition. Popular with collectors and hot rodders, the early postwar F-1 pickups seem like they were built for personalization. This 1948 Ford F-1 one has undergone an extensive restoration before the application of mile-deep Plum Crazy paint, including a 383-cubic-inch small-block Chevy V-8 dynoed at over 500 horsepower, a full TCI suspension, interior customization and more. This is a sure-fire attention-getter. ENGINE According to the seller, within the last 850 miles, this truck received a power makeover with the installation of a 383-cubic-inch stroker crate engine. The seller has dyno sheets showing better than 500 horsepower and torque, thanks in part to the modified crank from a 400 small block that allows for a 3.75-inch stroke. Fuel is drawn through a Quick Fuel Technologies HR Series carburetor, atop an Edelbrock Super Victor single-plane aluminum intake. Spent gases are carried out by a set of Hedman headers and a dual exhaust that exit at the back end of the truck. The engine was assembled by White Performance and Machine in Kingsport, Tennessee. TRANSMISSION The engine is bolted to a GM Turbo Hydra-Matic 700R4 trans, good for three gears and an overdrive. The transmission includes a new FTI Street Racer 9.5-inch lockup torque converter, and a B&M QuicSilver shifter inside the cab. The transmission shifts with no vibration or unexpected noise, according to the seller. CHASSIS While the original suspension might have been adequate for a flathead V-8, an engine with this kind of power needs a suspension to match. This 48 Ford F-1 features a suspension overhaul from Total Cost Involved in Ontario, California. The front suspension is fully independent with coil springs and Ride Tech shocks. The rear suspension is TCIs parabolic leaf spring setup, which not only lowers the back end, but provides a much more comfortable ride compared to the original spring pack. The suspension setup also allows for power steering and disc brakes up front. Mickey Thompson Sportsman tires are mounted to five-spoke aluminum Rader-style wheels. EXTERIOR The truck is finished in Plum Crazy purple paint applied in 2019 that the seller describes as “show quality and rates as 9.4 out of 10, with no swirls or blemishes. The running boards are finished in a textured material tinted to match the trucks overall paint scheme, and protected by cast aluminum step plates. The lumber in the bed is varnished and set off with black steel ribs. All of the glass appears to be in good shape. INTERIOR A lot of work went into providing the driver and passenger with more interior comfort than this F-1 was originally built with. The flat bench seat was replaced with a sculpted, split back TMI Pro Series seat with much more lateral support than the original. The card-style headliner matches the material used to cover the back of the cab, and the floor is carpeted in black. The instrument panel was updated with a Dakota Digital gauge panel, with a speedometer, tachometer, fuel, water temp, oil pressure and volt meters. A dual-DIN Pyle PLDNANDVR695 head unit provides not only sound but video capabilities through a 6.5-inch touchscreen. DOCUMENTATION receipts for much of the customization work and the engine dyno results. Updated with modern power, suspension and steering systems, and digital comfort and convenience features, this 1948 Ford F-1 blends classic styling with contemporary usability.
