Lincoln was born in 1917 as Fords luxury brand competing directly with Cadillac for market share in the personal luxury car segment. In 1959 the Continental was integrated into the Lincoln line up with the Continental Mark series beginning production in 1968. The “Mark was marketed as a two-door model only in response to the rival Cadillac Eldorado. Among the Continentals, there were designer series versions, but the best appearance package was the Bill Blass version. This shows as a great example of how a highly packaged Lincoln set the tone for true luxury. Lincoln debuted the new 460 cubic inch V-8 along with the first Ford vehicle to be produced with anti-lock brakes in the 1968 Mark III.
