VEHICLE DESCRIPTION

Used 1971 Ford Mustang for sale in Houston, Texas

Gateway Classic Cars of Houston is proud to offer for sale this rare Bright Blue Metallic 1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1. This is a well-documented car, from the original build sheet, Marti Report, and an article (reprint) from the September 2016 issue of Mustang Times that featured this car, one can see that its the real deal. According to its owner, it was repainted about 20 years ago. Equipped with the 429 SCJ and Drag Pack, this baby loves to bark the tires when youre manually upshifting. The 429 CID Super Cobra Jet V8 under the hood is mated to a Ford C6 3-speed automatic transmission. It doesnt have the original Holley 4BBL carb on it (replaced with an Edelbrock); nor does it have the original block. It does have a DOVE-A block, which was correct for the 429 SCJ-equipped Fords in 71; but its date-coded 5 months after this car was built. The transmission is the correct, cast iron tail shaft C6 automatic, which has been rebuilt (although how long ago is unknown). It has a correct D1AF-AH distributor, but its unknown if it is the original distributor. The radiator appears original, and the exhaust manifolds appear original. The Ram Air flappers work, however, probably about as well as they did in 1971. It also has a full-size spare, which appears original. Wrapped around the Magnum 500 wheels, the Firestone F60-15 Wide Oval bias-ply tires appear to have been produced the fourth week of 1997. The lower control arms have the riveted-on ball joints and appear original, and the uppers are bolted on and appear original. The door weather stripping, window felts, and all interior appear original and in very good condition. All the glass is stamped with the Carlite logo and is the correct tinted windows that the Marti Report and original invoice show came with the car. All body panels appear original to the car. This car looks awesome, is well documented, may be one of the ultimate performance Mustangs of the Muscle car era, and was recently featured in Mustang Times as Donald Farrs driver for the Tulsa Mid America event. The Bright Blue Metallic with Argent Striping color combination looks sharp at any distance, and the blue interior looks as it should for a well-kept 48-year-old car. The carpet looks original, and the blue woven vinyl seats look like they have survived time very well. Most of the car remains as close to stock/original as possible; however, the addition of a serious upgrade to the sound system will treat your ears. This 71 Mach 1 for sale has a Kenwood KCC-X701 AM/FM/CD/XM Satellite radio with Bluetooth and Pandora capabilities, and it sends the tunes out to amplified 6x9 speakers in a custom enclosure out back; plus, it has twin 12 Kenwood Excelon subwoofers in the trunk, also in custom enclosures. In the trunk is where youll see what looks to be the original spare tire and jack, along with the original AM/FM radio. In summary, this appears to be a very nice and well documented 1971 429 SCJ Mach1 that has had 1 (known) repaint and the bottom side detailed / cleaned up some. It has a correct 71-dated 429 CJ engine and a nicely detailed engine bay with mostly original / correct components.
