VEHICLE DESCRIPTION

Used 1968 Pontiac GTO for sale in Crete, Illinois

Now for sale in our Gateway Classic Cars of Chicago Showroom is this 4 owner 1968 Pontiac GTO! After being assembled in the factory during the fall of 1967 the car was then sent to Price Frederick Motor Co. in Maryland. The car was then sold from there in December of 1968. The original owner kept the car up until 1994 when it was sold to a gentleman in Virginia. The second owner enjoyed the car until December of 2005 when the 3rd owner purchased the car. The 3rd owner gave it a frame off restoration before selling it to the current owner back in 2012. The 4th owner enjoyed it for the past 7 years, but know it is time for another lucky person to get behind the wheel of this beauty! The current odometer reads only 98,595 miles and is believed to be actual miles. The 2nd and 3rd owner put some work into the car to get it into the shape it is today. The second owner had the engine rebuilt by a professional name Jim Taylor out of Virginia. We believe the engine to be original to the car and is a YS code. The rebuild kept the Compression ratio stock at 10.75 to 1. He replaced the camshaft and intake with the Torquer Series by Edelbrock. It was also fitted with roller rockers and a new Quick fuel SS-750 Carb was installed in October of 2011. It also received new hoses, T-stat, Howe 4 core Radiator, Twin electric cooling fans, alternator, Belts, HEI distributor, Distributor Cap, rotors, wires, plugs, and new fender wells to make the engine bay nice and clean. The new engine breathes through a set of powder coated Hooker Headers, into a 3 system with super turbos that come out below the rear bumper. This car is impossible not to see or hear coming and is sure to intimidate all others. The transmission is a factory correct Turbo 400 which was also rebuilt. It has a 2800-3000 Stall converter and a shift kit for firm shifts. The differential is numbers matching WD 10 bolt rear end with newer Auburn Carrier and Richmond gears with a 3:90 ratio. The installation also included new bearings, seals, and an aluminum cover. The two automatic cooling fans kick on automatically when a temperature of 190 is reached. They are also hooked up to a manual switch for the hot summer days. Inside the car still has the original white vinyl interior, but the carpet and headliner have been replaced. The dash houses the Speedometer, Clock, engine temp, Oil Pressure, and gas gauge. The stock gauges regarding the engine do not currently work, but aftermarket gauges under the center dash for the Oil pressure, Voltage and water Temp do work and show the condition of the engine. The A/C was converted to 134 A in May of 2011, but it does not currently work. In between the bucket seats is the His and Hers shifter which adds the cool factor for the car. The RPM gauge on the hood currently lights and is getting power but does not currently work as it should. This sweet GTO is looking for its next owner!
