Chevrolet entered the truck market competitively in 1918 with the Series 490. The 490 was sold as a chassis only. Leaving the customer to create a truck cab and rear bed. Chevrolet also introduced a one -ton truck ironically called the Chevrolet Model T. It was considered the first purpose- built truck by an automobile manufacturer. It took until 1931 before Chevrolet started producing factory built complete trucks. Customer now could buy a truck compete with a cab and bed of their choice straight from the factory. This was the start of truck revolution which still exists today. Our 1951 Chevrolet 3100 Stake Bed is a great example of a long tradition American work horse. 1950- 1951 brought significant improvements such as telescopic shock absorbers, side vent windows and chrome window /door handles. Under the hood is a rebuilt 235 cubic inch inline 6 engine attached to a manual three-speed column shift transmission. The exterior is painted in handsome red paint accented with black vinyl interior.
