Luckily for Ford, they had been crushing Chevrolet in sales on convertible coupes. American rag top fans had shown a higher interest in what Ford convertibles sending them atop Chevy in the drop top market. Redesigned sheet metal with a new stylish wrap around windshield covered its occupants giving better visibility as well as a sleek new exterior. The 56 model year included a rectangular grill as well as a new modern 12 volt electrical system to keep up with the demands of newer creature comforts. This particular vehicle went through a complete frame off restoration around 15 years ago. This Sunday driver is powered by the original 312 CID V8 that Ford used in their higher end cars as well as the Thunderbird. It is still sporting the “Thunderbird Special valve covers. The engine and Fordomatic 3 speed automatic transmission have been rebuilt with about 10,000 miles driven since. The sleek chrome lines are accentuated by the deep black paint matched with its red period correct interior.
