VEHICLE DESCRIPTION

Used 1968 Chevrolet Camaro for sale in Houston, Texas

Gateway Classic Cars of Houston is proud to offer for sale this awesome red 1968 Chevrolet Camaro SS tribute. This big block Chevy-powered drop-top is so much better than when it was new! For starters, the car was completely disassembled except for the rear window mechanism area. This frame-off overhaul included having the inner frame treated with corrosion inhibitor. This car floor pans and body panels were in pretty good shape with only minor surface rust, which was removed when the restoration was underway. The floor pans and the rest of the undercarriage, plus the firewall, were taken down to bare metal, completely prepped, treated, and painted with Por15 rust preventer paint. The front-end frame assembly was replaced with a powder-coated TCI Camaro front clip; which included a lighter, stronger K-member and tubular control arms, as well as an adjustable coil-over front suspension was installed. In addition, disk brakes, power rack and pinion steering, and integrated transmission mount were added. The transmission is a Muncie M21 4-speed, with upgraded new gears and bearings installed, and is now rated to an M22 Rock Crusher transmissions specs. The rear end is a GM 12 bolt, housing all new bearings and gears, with a 3.73:1 ring and pinion. The rear was also fitted with a TCI 4-bar rear suspension system with coil-over shocks and disk brakes. The 396 CID 375HP V8 Chevy Engine acquired for this Camaro is a match for a 1968 Model SS Camaro. 1968 L78 396 375 HP Block, 4 bolt Main #3916323, dated Jan 8, 1968, Stamping T0206EG Heads: 3919840, both dated Jan 12, 1968 Distributor: 1111170 dated 7M28 (December 28,1967) Intake: 3933163 Date (month?) 281968 Crankshaft: 6223 (Forged Steel w/std main rods and journals) 8 Harmonic Balancer & Correct Timing Cover with Timing Tabs Original Chevy Camaro Oil Pan Original Valve covers with drippers. The cam is a 396/375 HP blueprint solid lifter cam. (same spec as the original GM Grind), with .520/.520 lift, 316* intake/302* exhaust @. 242*/242* @.050, 111* lobe separation. The pistons are factory replacements, providing an 11:1 compression ratio. Inside, youll find that the black synthetic leather interior is in excellent shape, and nearly everything looks (and feels) like new. Other than the doors, rear body, firewall, window frames and window mechanisms, seats, and some minor parts; the rest of the car is new. New suspension, tires, rims, chrome bumpers, front fenders and wheel wells, radiator, hood, handles, lights, trim, emblems, wiring, upholstery, carpet, gas tank and straps, fuel lines, brake lines, brakes (upgraded to disc), air conditioning, and much more. The majority of these items were purchased from Classic Industries. It is basically a new car with less than 100 miles on it! The philosophy in building this car, was to modernize the suspension, make it a safer and more reliable to drive, but keep the car looking like it just came out of the factory in 1968. Additional options and features on this 1968 Chevrolet Camaro SS Tribute for sale include Air Conditioning (blows cool), AM Radio, Power Brakes, Power Steering, Radial Tires, Seat Belts, and Vinyl Interior.
