VEHICLE DESCRIPTION

Used 1970 Ford XL for sale in Englewood, Colorado

If you stop to think about it, it is really unfair to call full-size cars from the late Sixties and early Seventies land cruisers or boats. The fact is, a lot people actually prefer driving these stretches of iron to todays less charismatic, but equally large, keep up with the Joneses SUVs. One great example is this 1970 Ford XL convertible! Built on a 121-inch wheelbase with a full frame and more than enough room under the hood for a V8. It is still a full 10 inches shorter than the 2007 Ford Expedition. The XL’s which had finally been set free from the Galaxie family in 1969 retained its near decade-long sporty heritage, thanks to just two body styles: a two-door fastback coupe, and the convertible. The hidden headlamps are divided into three sections, thanks to a pronounced V in the center of the grille. A sculptured ridge in the hood fans out slightly as you look from forward to aft, matching the center section of the grille at the nose of the hood. The side molding has been relocated from 1969 to a higher position, and the rear grille was toned down in favor of a cleaner rear fascia with new taillamps. Powering this rare beauty is a potent 390 cubic inch V8 that provides plenty of power and allows this XL to cruise down any road with lots of confidence. Backing the engine in this Ford is the optional Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission, shifted on the column, which replaced the standard-issue three-speed manual in all XL models except those equipped with the 429s. Drop the white top and you are treated to a maroon interior that is very spacious. One of the best features of this car is definitely the interior, mainly because it is very driver oriented. Rather than a flat dash layout that stretches from driver side to passenger, the driver side completely focuses on the driver. With all of the controls being within an arm’s length it makes driving this 1970 Ford Xl a whole different experience.
