The 1988 5 Series, also known as the E28, was the second generation for the 5 Series, and was produced from 1981 to 1988. The 535is was offered in lieu of the European spec M535i. The 535is added front and rear spoilers, sport suspension, and sport seats to the list of standard 535 equipment. Power comes from a 3.4L inline 6-cylinder engine, originally developing 215hp. That power is shifted through a smooth shifting 4-speed automatic transmission. BMW’s are advertised as “The Ultimate Driving Machine†and we’re sure this beautifully kept example will still make good on that claim.
