The 1st generation T-Bird in comparison to the previous year introduction of the Corvette, outsold the Corvette by a ratio of 10 to 1 with over 16,000 units sold in the first-year offering. This particular Baby Bird with a VIN ending in #178 is believed to be first day of production. This Thunderbird has received a stunning frame up restoration after twenty-five years in storage with only five hundred miles since. Featuring the standard 292 Y-block engine and Fordomatic two speed automatic transmission this was a cruiser special. Not built as a high-performance car, the personal luxury first-generation Thunderbirds were loved and adored by Hollywood and the well-heeled including the enigmatic Marylyn Monroe photographed in a black Thunderbird very similar to the offering here.
