This 1956 Mercury Monterey is for sale in our Louisville KY showroom. The Monterey was introduced in 1950 as part of the Mercury Eight series. The car was designed to compete head to head with GMs hardtop coupes which had taken the automotive world by storm. The pilarless design known simply as a hardtop gave the appearance of a convertible with the all of the advantages of a fixed roof. This 56 is a classic example of what the 50s were all about. The Black and white two tone paint split down the middle with the chrome trim absolutely screams Americana. Add to this the wide white wall tires with the two rears being concealed by a set of fender skirts finishing off the period correct exterior. Pop the hood and the biggest peppiest engine offered in 1956 the 312 V8 sits nestled away under the hood. With the breather and valve covers powder coated the classic ford blue the engine bay is in the early stages of a complete restoration. Though it may not be aesthetically pleasing the mechanical side of this 235 HP behemoth is in great condition. With A simple turn of the key the V8 comes to life and settles down to a smooth idle in no time. Backed up by the classic Cruise-O-Matic transmission driving this beauty is pure pleasure. Shifting through all 3 gears without a hitch the 3 speed transmission was recently serviced with all new gaskets and seals replaced you can park this ion the driveway and not have to worry about it marking its spot. Open the door and the front bench seat is very inviting with the vinyl matching the exterior as well. The huge steering wheel looks great and is sure to remind you of when and where this car came from.
